From Brazil to the Platform: RepMax’s Journey to the U.S. Powerlifting Scene
RepMax may be a new name to some in the USA powerlifting community, but their story began long before landing on American platforms. Founded in Brazil in 2018, RepMax was created to fill a serious gap in the market. At the time, there were no brands truly dedicated to powerlifting in Brazil. Most gear was generic, low-quality, and simply not built for the demands of serious lifters. After running a local store and working closely with athletes, João Vitor (Founder and CEO) saw an opportunity to change the game and built a brand with lifters in mind.
With a strong community and loyal customer base in Brazil, the idea to expand internationally came naturally. After a 10-year wait, João’s green card was approved, and with that, the door to the USA market opened. It wasn’t just about growing a business, it was about bringing a proven brand to a new stage.
Breaking into the USA powerlifting scene hasn’t been easy. Competing against long-established brands has its challenges, but RepMax is no stranger to building from the ground up. The brand is focused on recreating the same community-driven reputation they earned in Brazil, one connection at a time. “One of the biggest challenges has been stepping into the USA as the underdog. This market already has powerhouse brands that athletes know and trust — and earning a place among them doesn’t happen overnight. Our mission is to break through that wall and build the same community-driven, culture-rich reputation we established in Brazil. It took years to get there, and we know it’ll take time here too — but we’re ready. We’ve done it once, and we’re here to do it again.”
The USA powerlifting scene is more developed, with a deep history, established federations, and a culture of content and competition. In Brazil, powerlifting is still finding its footing, with most of the fitness industry centered on bodybuilding. RepMax brings a fresh perspective to a well-established market and aims to contribute to the culture in a meaningful way.
That’s why their partnership with Powerlifting United (PLU) matters. RepMax, now an official partner for PLU Nationals and American Pro, credits PLU as the first organization in the USA to welcome them with open arms back in 2022, “partnering with Powerlifting United was an easy choice. It’s all about the people. From the beginning, they treated sponsors like family, going above and beyond to support brand exposure and build real connections within their athlete community. Back in 2022, they were actually the first ones to welcome RepMax into the USA scene, and that stuck with us. This sponsorship isn’t just business — it’s personal. It’s about loyalty, shared values, and growing the sport together.”
Now based in the USA, RepMax is ready to make its mark. The mission hasn’t changed: serve lifters, build community, and raise the standard.
